Grow-NY is a business competition focused on growing an enduring food and agriculture innovation cluster in the Grow-NY region.
The competition attracts innovative, high-growth food and agriculture startups from across the globe and engages them in the region’s rapidly-growing startup ecosystem.
Winning companies will be required to execute bold plans to grow jobs, connect with local industry partners, and contribute to a thriving Upstate economy.
Finalists will pitch their business ideas for a chance to win up to $1 million.
o High-growth food and agriculture startups from across the globe are encouraged to enter the competition.
o Up to 20 finalists are matched with experienced mentors and receive customized business development trips to the region.
o $3 million will be awarded each year to seven startups. The top prize is $1 million.
The Grow-NY competition is for startups with growth potential in food and agriculture.
The Competition is open to all startups located in any state or country in the world that meet the Grow-NY definition of ‘Food and Agricultural Field’, are early-stage, and have a scalable business model.
Applicants must be an established business entity in the food, beverage, and/or agriculture space. This includes food and agriculture companies at every point in the agri-food value chain that are working to serve a growing population, while striving to employ sustainable, environmentally conscious, and/or healthy methods. Examples of food and agriculture startups include, but are not limited to, companies that:
• Research and design new crop varieties
• Offer new methods and/or tools to support the efficient growing, monitoring, and harvesting of crops and livestock
• Offer new and/or improved methods for producing, preparing, and packaging food and beverage products or ingredients
• Represent high-growth opportunities for new and innovative food and beverage products or ingredients
As used in these Terms and Conditions, the term “Food and Agriculture Field” is defined as follows:
• Physical products, hardware technologies, software technologies, services, or processes thatrelatetoorimpactproductsthatarederivedfromcultivatingplantsorenhancehuman life, such as:
o Food, including but not limited to fruits, vegetables, grains and cereal crops, meats and dairy products, honey and farmed fish, packaged and prepared food products for distribution;
o Fuels, including but not limited to ethanol, produced from corn, sugarcane, or sorghum, and agricultural byproducts like straw, sugarcane;
o Fibers, including but not limited to fiber crops such as cotton, wool, silk, hemp, flax and bamboo;
o Raw materials, including but not limited to livestock feed; and
o Processes or systems that improve the development, growth, production, distribution, delivery, or processing of the
The term “Food and Agriculture Field” also includes hardware technologies, software technologies, services, or processes that are new, novel, or otherwise benefit agriculture, food, or their related industries.
