Applicants are invited to apply or nominate for the FinTech Awards Wales 2021 to recognise, attract and invest in the talented FinTech Companies & professionals working in Wales.

FinTech Awards Wales will recognise the achievements of the thriving FinTech sector across the country, bringing Wales’ leading innovators and digital experts together in an evening of celebration.

As an emerging tech region, Wales has the fastest growing digital economy outside of London and with solid growth of the financial and professional sector in Wales, the platform is set to support the country’s digital revolution.

Award Categories
FinTech Start-up of the Year
• This award is for a new, up-and-coming FinTech company in Wales that is less than five years old and has shown the most entrepreneurial success in the past year in FinTech.
• Success will be measured on a number of factors, including innovative technology, solving a technology need, capturing a new sector or market with FinTech, disruption of a service or market segment, novel application of a product or service, or traction in the international marketplace

FinTech Company of the Year
• This award is for an established FinTech company in Wales that has been providing products or services for over four years and is actively engaged in innovation creation. Success is measured by a number of factors, including partnerships with banks or providing services directly to consumers, significant growth or adoption.

FinTech Scale-up of the Year
• This award will recognise a market leading increase in sales, headcount, profitability, market share or geographical expansion over the last 3 years. This award will go to the business demonstrating the highest levels of growth and a robust plan to deliver a sustainable financial performance.
• A high growth company having seen year-on-year growth for 3 or more consecutive years.
• Judges will be looking for:
o Demonstration of investment to build a strong management team
o Market leading growth
o High levels of employee engagement
o Outstanding leadership and management
o Evidence of the growth mind-set and commitment to building collaborations
o Evidence of financial performance that categorises the business as scale up
o Strategy around plans for further expansion
o An ethical approach to business

FinTech Leader of the Year
• The Award Judges are looking for an outstanding individual who has consistently contributed to the advancement of the fintech sector here in Wales. You would have shown the ability to survive and thrive during the significant changes of the past year. You would have led a significant transformation of their business which is delivering tangible results. The individual will have constantly demonstrated superior leadership skills, promoted technological change – company wide and would have been innovative in their approach.

New Product of the Year
• This award will recognise a Welsh technology supplier that has delivered innovation, through a particular product, service offering or overall business approach. This category is designed to recognise those firms that have responded to market pressures with originality and creativity, and might be using traction-gaining technologies such as artificial intelligence, biometrics or NFC. Details of product development should be provided as far as possible, and applicants should demonstrate the implementation and performance levels of the product.

COVID Hero/Heroes
• This is open to any individual or teams who went above and beyond the call of duty to help the business or those affected cope with the virus and its economic after-effects.

Best Academic Programme of the Year Supporting FinTech / FS Companies
• Encouraging the development of FinTech innovation and business solutions (such as cybersecurity/anti-fraud, big data, AI etc.) for enhancing operations and fostering new models of business for the financial sector.
o Must be in Wales
o Operating within a Welsh HE/FE institution

Best Advisory Firm of the Year
• This award is open to any firm that actively supports or advises businesses. You will need to show the following points:
o Overview of the firm, its structure and client base
o Clear corporate social responsibility plan
o Evidence of how you have gone over and above for clients
o Evidence of commercial performance
o Commitment to staff well-being and evidence of associated programmes

Rising FinTech Star
• As the industry grows there are many newcomers bringing fresh innovations to the table. From FinTech start-ups, developers and software companies to the companies with new and exciting applications for the technology. This award will recognise a visionary star in the FinTech sector making a significant impact.
• Judges will be looking for:
o Evidence of how you have shown enterprise, innovation and entrepreneurial flair
o Show how they have made a measurable impact to their business or organisation

Best Accelerator/Incubator of the Year
• This award is targeted at an accelerator or incubator that has demonstrated success in helping FinTech or AI start-ups to launch their businesses, or develop technology and work with others in the sector to develop innovative products or services that have an impact. This award is to recognise the importance of incubators and accelerators in fostering ecosystem support or other forms of support in Wales that advance innovation in Wales for the benefit of all.
o Must be in Wales
o In FinTech or AI space
o Recognises accelerators or incubators that support ecosystem
