The Canadian Council for Aboriginal Bussiness has announced the Award for Excellence in Aboriginal Relations that is designed to honour and recognize a Canadian who has contributed to building bridges between Aboriginal peoples and Canadian society, and whose efforts have made a substantial impact across the nation.
Eligibility Criteria
This prestigious award is open to all Canadians.
• Challenging the Status Quo
o Nominees should be people who have questioned and confronted the status quo when it comes to Aboriginal relations in Canada. Their careers and lives should reflect that they have the vision, the determination, and the ability to create change. Nominees are never satisfied with things as they are, but always looking to improve situations and outcomes for Aboriginal peoples as well as build bridges between Canadian society and Aboriginal communities.
• Action
o Nominees should be known for taking action once opportunities present themselves or are always looking to create opportunities for action. Setting an example for others to follow can be as important as holding a formal leadership position. Nominees should be catalysts for change.
• Partnerships
o Nominees have worked and partnered with government or business sectors to ensure the success of their projects. They achieve their goals by working with others. Nominees should have the vision to challenge accepted wisdom but also the ability to change the perceptions of others
• Visibility across Canada
o Nominees should be known for their efforts toward reconciliation between Aboriginal communities and Canadian society. Their contributions have a wide ranging impact that has implications both locally and nationally. The nominee has significant recognition for how they have contributed to the improvement of the lives of Aboriginal peoples and their communities.
