London Borough of Bexley is seeking applications for its Restart Grant scheme.
The Restart Grant will be made available to qualifying (rated) non-essential retail, hospitality, accommodation, leisure, personal care and gym businesses. The awards will be:
• non-essential retail businesses with a rateable value of £15,000 or less, will receive a one-off grant of £2,667
• non-essential retail businesses with a rateable value over £15,000 and less than £51,000, will receive a one-off grant of £4,000
• non-essential retail businesses with a rateable value of £51,000 or above, will receive a one-off grant of £6,000
• qualifying Hospitality and Leisure properties with a rateable value of £15,000 or less, will receive a one-off grant of £8,000
• qualifying Hospitality and Leisure properties with a rateable value over £15,000 and less than £51,000, will receive a one-off grant of £12,000
• qualifying Hospitality and Leisure properties with a rateable value of £51,000 or above, will receive a one-off grant of £18,000
The local authority is mandated to undertake a number of pre-payment checks as well as collect further information from businesses for the restart grants.
This is a stricter position than that required for previous COVID-19 business support grant schemes and applies to all businesses even if a business grant has been previously paid.
The Government will not accept deliberate manipulation and fraud. Any business caught falsifying their records to gain additional grant money will face prosecution and any funding issued will be recovered, as may any grants paid in error.
These checks include:
• Using the Government tool ‘spotlight’ tool which will flag where organisations have recently become inactive.
• Using a counter-fraud bank account checker in partnership with Experian and the National Fraud Initiative. This tool will enable Local Authorities to:
o Verify the bank accounts of companies in receipt of these business grants; and
o Provide insight into whether the company was trading at the relevant date for these grants
