Bradford Council is offering a grant of up to £1500 to support high street business invest in outdoor furniture and equipment to adapt and improve the customer experience while trading outdoors. The Outdoor Trading Grant will help businesses extend their premises outdoors providing better facilities to deal with social distancing measures and promote safe trading.
This is to help local businesses to offer alternative outdoor spaces for trading and attract old and new customers back to High Streets in a safe and welcoming way.
Who can apply?
• Micro and SME businesses trading from premises in the Bradford district
• Businesses applying for an outdoor seating licence (grant will not be awarded if the licence is not approved)
• Businesses that wish to utilise outdoor space within their own demise
• Businesses that were trading prior to 1 February 2021 (this means that the business, even if mandated to close, was still “live” and not dormant, in administration or in the process of being struck off).
• Only one grant will be awarded per business
Eligibility Criteria
• Businesses must apply for a free Outdoor Seating licence before applying for the Outdoor Trading Grant if they would like to place outdoor furniture on the public highway outside their premises. This is to ensure businesses buy suitable outdoor furniture, barriers and planters which comply with the Outdoor Seating Licence.
• For businesses that have some outdoor space as part of their private property, an Outdoor Seating Licence is not required, however they may apply for an Outdoor Trading Grant.
• The grant is also available retrospectively for eligible outdoor furniture/equipment purchased after 1 February 2021 following the Government announcement of the Roadmap out of Lockdown.
• The Outdoor Trading Grant can fund: outdoor furniture, planters, barriers, parasols and décor which comply with the Outdoor Seating Licence.
• The Grant cannot fund: indoor furniture, outdoor heaters, crockery, cutlery, table linen, glasses, cooking equipment, refreshments, staffing and running costs
