GIZ Kenya is implementing an initiative for ‘promoting market development and access to improved cookstoves (ICS) in Kenya’ under the Energising Development Kenya (EnDev Kenya) portfolio.
The initiative targets to build the capacity and professionalise local stove production enterprises with regards to improving stove production processes for stoves and stove components (e.g. ceramic liners) including fabrication and assembly processes. The support shall comprise provision of hardware (e.g. machines, tools, equipment & basic infrastructure) and related technical assistance. In addition, business development support services shall be provided to eligible enterprises.
Objective
The objective is to accelerate the growth of the Improved Cookstoves (ICS) sector with an irreversible market transformation that will significantly increase the level of ICS production and sales, particularly in more remote and rural locations, thereby enabling Kenya to significantly advance the achievement of the stated NDC goals.
Target Groups
The professionalisation is targeting Kenyan stove production enterprises in the informal sector (Jua Kali sector), cottage industry (home-based production) and micro and small-scale stove production enterprises, which produce improved biomass stoves (Improved Cookstoves) for firewood and charcoal. These could be individuals, groups, sole proprietors, partnerships, and companies.
