EV Charging for Business Fleets provides $1.5 million in grants to increase electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure in Victoria. The grant program will support the charging infrastructure and stimulate the purchase and lease of EVs, reducing operating costs and emissions and improving the visibility of EVs in the community.
In the longer term, the turn-over of fleets will also provide a flow-on to the second-hand EV market, in turn making EVs more affordable for Victorians.
Victoria is working to support business leadership in the transition to EVs. Greater uptake of EVs by private businesses will help to reduce their emissions, supporting local emissions reduction targets, and stimulate the second-hand EV market at the end-of-vehicle lease.
One of the biggest and growing sources of greenhouse gas emissions is the transport sector – accounting for 25% of Victoria’s total carbon emissions. Zero emissions vehicles (ZEVs) can provide opportunities to achieve significant reductions as we work towards net-zero emissions by 2050, while reducing the amount of air pollution and making our cities and towns more liveable.
By supporting the installation of EV chargers, Victoria is laying the groundwork for the increased take-up of ZEVs, helping us to reach our target of 50% of all new light vehicle sales to be ZEVs by 2030.
Objectives
By working with businesses, the program supports projects that:
• implement EV charging technology at business locations
• support business leadership in the transition to EVs, removing a large barrier to EV adoption
• help stimulate a second-hand EV market at end-of-vehicle lease (if applicable)
• create project supply chain and local jobs, i.e. skills, capabilities and services across each service area
• support smart charging infrastructure technology manufacturing, installation and maintenance opportunities within the State
• deliver community benefit – both social and economic
• reduce greenhouse gas emissions in line with the Victorian Government’s net-zero transition target and the business’s own targets and strategies.
Funding
• $1.5 million in grants is available to deliver the EVCBF Program across Victoria.
• Allocation of the funding will vary depending on the fleet characteristics of the business, including demonstration of need, location, size of fleet, frequency of use and commitment to an EV transition plan.
Eligibility Criteria
• must be a commercial-for-profit, not-for-profit or community organisation
• must be the owner of a business that employs at least one person, not including the business owner, and fewer than 20 people
• operate in Victoria.
