o The life science industry is one that encompasses a wide range of areas. These areas can include companies operating in the fields of drug discovery, medical devices, pharmaceuticals, and therapeutics offering innovative products and services.
• Specialty Diagnostics x Showa Denko
o Are you developing an antibiotic susceptibility technology (AST)? The AST technology should allow for rapid analysis (minutes, not hours), work in real patient matrices (urine, whole blood or CSF), and be simple enough that the final product can be used by non-trained medical personnel in a physician office environment (CLIA waiveable). The technology should enable an embodiment in which sample preparation is automated and incorporated into the test device. A phenotypic AST is preferred. Genotypic entries will be allowed, but consideration should be made to identify as high a percentage of resistant bacteria or fungi as possible while optimizing specificity.
o This is a one-of-a-kind opportunity for relevant companies / academic developers. If selected, you will be connected to partners at Showa Denko Materials (America), who are actively looking to commercialize a rapid antibiotic susceptibility test technology to further develop your diagnostic technology and connect you to key stakeholders.
Prize Information
• Technology: Cash prize equal to twenty thousand dollars ($20,000).
• Life Science: Priority admission or renewal to University Lab Partners and 1-year ULP lab space (one (1) – 6ft lab bench).
• Specialty Diagnostics x Showa Denko: Priority admission or renewal to University Lab Partners and 1-year ULP lab space (one (1) – 6ft lab bench).
Eligibility Criteria
The Contest is open to (a) persons that are legal residents of, and physically located within, the United States and are at least eighteen (18) years of age at the time of entry; and (b) validly existing entities (i.e., corporations, limited liability companies, and limited partnerships) based in the United States and legally authorized to conduct business in the State of California. A participant’s entry into this Contest will be deemed to be a representation that the entrant qualifies under either Section 3(a) or Section 3(b) of these Rules. The Contest is void in any jurisdiction or territory outside the United States and/or where otherwise prohibited or restricted by law. ULP and its affiliates, partners, sponsors, employees, directors, agents, advertising, and promotional agencies, and all others associated with the development and execution of this Contest (collectively “Promotion Entities”), and their immediate family members (herein defined as spouse, siblings, children and each of their respective spouses, regardless of residence, and any person living in such a person’s household, whether related or not), are not eligible to enter or win. This Contest is subject to all federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
