Zinemaldia Startup Challenge is a competition for business projects. A public-private initiative aiming to foster the generation of new entrepreneurial projects based on new technologies and aimed at the audiovisual field, and to support their development in the Basque Country.
The Basque Government, through its Department of Economic Development, Sustainability and Environment, promotes the Zinemaldia Startup Challenge, an initiative running in the framework of the Zinemaldia & Technology event, organised by the San Sebastian Festival, TECNALIA and Tabakalera, with the backing of Creative Europe MEDIA and Vicomtech, the applied research centre.
Zinemaldia & Technology is a strategic pledge by the San Sebastian Festival in the endeavour to position itself as a benchmark space for reflecting on technology and the audiovisual Industry.
Competition Objectives
This competition seeks to foster and recognise new business projects in the field of innovative technology applied to the audiovisual sector. The initiative therefore has the following objectives:
• To foster new entrepreneurial projects in the audiovisual field.
• To support the development in the Basque Country of new initiatives by means of providing economic resources and services of expert advice on how to create and manage a business.
• To promote modernisation of the audiovisual sector by means of incorporating new technologies.
• Said objectives are in line with the strategies to foster entrepreneurship promoted by the Basque Government Department of Economic Development and Infrastructures and, also, with the Smart Specialisation Strategy (RIS3) in place in the Basque Country.
Award Information
• The winning business project will receive a cash prize of 10,000 euros.
• The 5 finalist projects will also receive the following:
o The possibility of free access to an incubation space during the first year of their visit, at one of the BICs belonging to the Basque Technology Park Network.
o The possibility of access to funding of up to 500,000 euros to develop your project. (Some programmes providing funding support and backing require proof of registered residence in the Basque Autonomous Community and/or of having a registered company address in the Basque Autonomous Community).
Who can Participate?
• The competition is open to entrepreneurs and recently created startups proposing new business projects incorporating new technologies and aimed at the audiovisual field.
• Startups must:
o Have solutions based on the use of new technologies and their application to the audiovisual field.
o Have been constituted after 31/12/2015 in a European country.
o Consider developing and setting their project in motion in the Basque Country.
• Entrepreneurs must:
o Be older than 18 years on 31/12/2020.
o Have their legal residence in a European country.
o Consider developing and setting their project in motion in the Basque Country.
