SLOAM, the Slovenian Youth Agency is organizing the first Slovenian Social Impact Award this year – a project that encourages young people to develop social and entrepreneurial innovations to solve the most demanding social challenges of our time. Young people with a strong sense of fellow human beings are invited to apply, who will create social change and compete for the Social Impact Award.
The Social Impact Award project offers support to young social entrepreneurs who are still in the early stages of development and implementation of innovative business solutions to tackle the most important social challenges of our time. The project has been present in the international arena for more than a decade, and in Slovenia it will begin its journey in 2021.
As part of the SIA project, which will take place between April and October this year, various events and workshops on social entrepreneurship and the transformation of ideas into feasible business ventures will be organized. This will be followed by a shortlist of the most innovative teams, an all-Slovenian voting and an awards ceremony. SLOAM's vision is to give the project a traditional note and offer support to young people from year to year to implement their business idea and plan, and above all to return to the local community the knowledge and enthusiasm they gained during the project.
What are the main goals of the SIA project?
• Awareness raising: Present social entrepreneurship as a meaningful career path.
• Education: Develop young people's competencies for success in social entrepreneurship, including the establishment of a social enterprise.
• Support: Providing professional support, incubation and possible start-up capital.
• Community: Networking with entrepreneurs and professionals, feedback and finding synergies for development.
The first part of the project will include a number of educational and inspiring activities aimed at raising awareness about social entrepreneurship and supporting participants in the development of influential social entrepreneurship ideas:
• Idea Generation: issues of social entrepreneurship and practical insight into creating an idea to solve social challenges.
• Social Impact Weekend: a multi-day event consisting of two sets. The first set will focus on social innovation, social impact and the transformation of ideas into viable business ventures. In the second part, the participants will get acquainted with the planning and modeling of a social enterprise and with the guidelines for SIA application.
• Hack Your SIA: peer-to-peer exchange of tips and experiences, with the aim of improving the entrepreneurial idea and the final SIA application.
• Chat with Impact: raising awareness of the topic of social entrepreneurship among future generators of change, “changemakers”, and obtaining advice from experts from the social-entrepreneurial environment.
