2021 Spotlight on YouthBiz Stars Business Competition (United States)

Applicants are invited to apply for the Spotlight on YouthBiz Stars business competition, where Colorado youth entrepreneurs ages 6-21 can apply for free to win up to $5000 and a business mentor!

All applicants are invited to attend the Gala, where Young Americans Center for Financial Education find out who the winners of each age category are. These young entrepreneurs complete an online application, and then a panel of judges selects a winner and two finalists in each age category.

Prize Information
Winners receive up to $5,000, and finalists receive up to $500. Winners are also paired with a leading business owner from the Colorado community.

Why You Should Apply
The applications process is simple, and we’re available to help. If you can answer yes to these questions, you should apply:
• Do you know what your business does?
• Do you have a picture?
• Have you had at least one customer?

Eligibility Criteria
• Applicants are individuals or teams who own and operate a business independently from a larger organization or government entity.
• This competition is offered only to individuals who are legal residents of the 50 United States. The business must be owned and operated in Colorado. Applicants must be at least 6 years old and no older than 21 at the time the entry is submitted.
• Submissions will be judged in one of three age categories: 6-11 years old, 12-15 years old, and 16-21 years old. The eldest owner of the business will decide the age category in which that business will compete.
• To qualify for entry, the applicants should make the management decisions for their business.
• In order for the business to receive award funds, the business and/or its primary owner must be able to provide a valid Tax Identification Number or Social Security Number.
• The business must be in operation to be eligible for the competition. At least one sale of the product or service must have been made before submission.
Here is what you need to complete your application:
• Description of your business
• 1-4 images of your product or you performing your services
• For older age categories, a brief video about you and your business
• Some of your business goals
• A description of your target customers
• Where you sell your product/service now and where you’d like to sell in the future
• Business expenses from past year
• Business sales from past year
• Competition and your competitive advantage
• Parent contact information
